French drug firm opening means more research jobs
Date: July 19, 1999 The French pharmaceutical firm Ethpyharm S.A. is setting up its new North American headquarters in Laval, north of Montreal. The move is expected to mean new job opportunities for chemists, biochemists, biologists and biotechnicians. Ethypharm, which formulates release systems for orally administered drugs, is investing $15 million on its new 30 000 square foot Laval location. The new headquarters will have a staff of 58 personnel, most of whom will have scientific backgrounds, and the company plans are to begin recruiting soon. It also plans to open a manufacturing plant in the northeastern US sometime in the next 5 years. "We considered several sites in North America and opted for Laval because the Laval Science and High Technology Park provided not only a first-rate scientific environment but also a building tailored to our operations," said Pierre Lapalme, Ehypharm's North American president.
